This past Saturday, NOLA Fashion Council held a brunch at Tivoli & Lee at The Hotel Modern to benefit NOLA Fashion Week. I, of course had work (yay retail!), but was able to take a long lunch and make it toward the end of the brunch.

I planned my outfit ahead, knowing It would need to be work appropriate, but allow a few quick changes for brunch. Leopard is a neutral right? I asked myself this when I decided that I didn’t want to wear the black purse I had originally planned with this outfit. All neutral?? Snooze fest. At least not when brunching amongst so many other style mavens. For work, I had on an oversized black sleeveless blazer (yes,  also know as a vest) … it just sounds more work appropriate that way, and added the leopard top and plaid clutch for brunch.

I ended up getting to the brunch toward the end because I forgot my camera and phone at home as I rushed out the door for work that morning (it was the last minute purse swap that had me all frazzled!), so I didn’t get to take pics with anyone, but made sure to get a few (rushed) outfit pics before heading back to work!

I love a good outtake!

Wow, a fashion show featuring clothing designed by 10 year old with Cystic Fibrosis to raise money for this terminal genetic disease! This is such a great event for a great cause, and I can’t wait to see some of the designs from the show! I hope some of you can make it for a great night of fashion, food, and fundraising! 

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the respiratory and digestive systems.  There is no known cure. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation exists to raise funds to find a cure for the disease.

Leah Milana Bauer and Grace Rose Bauer, owner of Los Angeles- based Rosie G Designs is pleased to announce a children’s fashion show to be held at The Rice Mill Lofts on Saturday June 22^nd from 5:00 to 8:00pm.

Leah, who was born and raised in New Orleans, along with other sponsors and hosts will display and auction off the first collection of daughter, Grace Rose’s designs while guests sample food and drinks from the best restaurants around New Orleans.  The evening will also showcase a silent auction, DJ and pieces produced by Bauer’s 10-year old daughter, Grace Rose, an aspiring fashion designer living with Cystic Fibrosis.

Tickets are $100-$150 (discount with advance purchase) adults; $20 for children and will be available at the door.

I am SO excited to finally share what my sister and I have been working on for the past few months. We are starting a meetup for bloggers and creatives in Louisiana called The Made In Mind Social. We have had the idea in our minds for a while, and after a few coffee shop brainstorming sessions and lots of late night meetings, we finally made it all come together! 

Our goal is to build a community where everyone can share their passions and encourage each other to keep their creative juices flowing. Whether you are a blogger, graphic designer, artist, photographer, fashion designer, DIY lover, makeup artist etc., we want to network and get to know the people behind their work!

We are in the process of planning our launch party so if you are in the area, we would LOVE for you to come! And to all fellow creatives, become a member and attend all of our future events as well!

Omg it’s almost officially Summer y’all! That means it’s time for bright colors, short shorts, fun sunnies, strappy heels, and sea salt sprayed hair! Which is exactly how I decided to style this signature ‘OMG Y’ALL’ tee from Abeille! I kept my outfit pretty simple (since the t-shirt is the statement piece, obvi!) with black  silk drawstring shorts, and a pop of color with some mint green earring and shoes. Some props were also a must-have for this shoot in anticipation of all the Summer fun to come!

The Met Gala was last night, which kicks off  the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s yearly Costume Institute exhibit. This year’s theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture“, which I was pumped about since I love to incorporate a bit of edge into any outfit, and the majority of songs on my iTunes are by NOFX, so I always enjoy a good punk moment! Below are some images from the exclusive punk shop via Moda Operandi including some major designers and probably the most influential designer in punk fashion, Vivienne Westwood, who used to dress the Sex Pistols!! 

AND MY BEST DRESSED ARE…

As I was trying to choose my favorite looks from the night, I realized there were some similarities amongst them. So instead of narrowing it down to only a few, here are all of the looks I loved, and some common themes of the night that these ladies rocked! And you better believe there are no average red carpet looks in my best dressed. With this theme, you better go punk or go home! 

Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon dress, Christian Louboutin plaid thigh-high boots, and Philip Treacy mohawh headdress. SJP always nails it!

Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier corseted, black lace pantsuit with added black leather halter and tulle overskirt. Love the layered combo she has going on. 

Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello, red leather dress with grommet detail. She went full out punk with this leather mini, which I appreciated unlike some who looked like they where on any other red carpet.

Taylor Tomasi Hill in Thom Browne, floral printed gown with spiked shoulders. Loved the unexpected, oversized spikes on this feminine gown. 

Sienna Miller in Burberry, sleek white gown and studded leather jacket

Cara Delevingn in Burberry plunging, studded gown. 

Side part, sleek gown, and arm full of studs? Punk stole my look! Even though these 2 did not push any limits for this occasion, they both rocked it. Love a sleek, sexy, yet edgy look any day!

Dark lips and slicked back hair gave these bright white gowns the perfect vampy touch. 

Today starts the second weekend of Jazz Fest, and I am anxiously awaiting Saturday, which will be my first day attending this year! In the meantime I put together a quick little outfit post. This fringe vest is my favorite thing to throw on this time of year before it gets too scorching hot to have any extra layers on and my new wedges I scored at TJ Maxx after striking out at my first trip to DSW. Now, of course I would not wear wedges to a festival but had to incorporate the newest addition to my wardrobe in an outfit post. I love Army green and neon yellow together, so this comfy tank and linen shorts were a great blank canvas to the printed vest & neon necklace. I placed my metallic clutch inside a reusable mesh grocery bag and tied my new colorful rope belt around the handle for a cool summertime tote (still wanting to add some handles to it like this DIY)

These 4 shoe styles have been gracing the runways, shoe racks, and fashionista’s feet everywhere this past season! It seems like this year has had more predominant shoe trends than I can remember in the past. Maybe it is because I tend to buy things that I will like and will wear for a while, whether or not they are the latest trend. These trends come in every shoe style  imaginable. I chose a flat, sandal, heel, & wedge to show 4 different styles, for these 4 Spring shoe trends below. I know that I will always be fond of these styles, since I have a pair of silver heels that were my grandmothers (sadly too small, but displayed in my office) and a vintage clear pvc pair I bought from the thrift store before the trend became so mainstream. So ladies, I beg of you, save your shoes!! Even when the season is over, and the newest trend is all you want to wear, box up those special pairs to pass down when that style makes it back around generations later.

The Ladies Contemporary department at Saks has so many great brands that offer a wide range of styles and trends for every type of customer. There are 3 trends in particular that have been predominant for Spring throughout the contemporary racks – Floral, distressed denim, and color infused lace. This weekend Saks New Orleans will be celebrating the Ladies Contemporary department and all of the outstanding styles we have to offer our customers! I have had so much fun working at Saks since I started in October and I hope you will come join me in celebrating CONTEMPORARY WEEK!
