DIY Friday: Makeup Mason Jars

Are y’all ready for some DIY Fridays? Today’s DIY is a really simple one I completed with things I had in my own home (or my parents shop). Mason Jars, scissors and colored tape or decorative washi tape is all you need. I have been keeping my makeup brushes, mascara, and liners in these mason jars for a while now, but I decided they needed a little jazzing up. My dad just happened to have tape in two of the most trending colors right now, mint green and neon orange (well anything neon)… yea he knows what’s up!  Also, anything is better with some metallic, so I added copper tape too.

I suggest laying out your design on paper first. With this design that I chose, I needed to know how far apart to put the horizontal lines so that the zig zags would meet at the top and bottoms of them. I cut individual lines with diagonal edges for the zig-zag design (slant opposite ways for the opposite side of the triangle). Once you have one piece cut in each direction, use those as your guide, holding them up to the tape to cut the rest.

Once you have enough laid out that you feel comfortable with, go for it, stick those suckers on there! The tape will remove pretty easily from the glass if you do happen to mess up, so don’t fret. I keep the makeup I use everyday on this vintage brass tray so that everything is visible and easy to find when I need it.

You can also use these mason jars to hold your pens on your desk, storage for dry foods such as nuts, granola, beans or coffee, and your bathroom essentials like cotton balls and Q-tips.

Stay tuned for more DIY Friday’s, but in the mean time, go get your tape on!

** If you have any DIY ideas you would like to see featured on the blog, send them my way, and I will try to make it happen!

Y’all, I’m obsessed! Art, fashion, and glitter? Obsessed. Katie Rodgers is the creator and amazingly talented artist behind the whimsical illustrations of PaperFashion. I had the hardest time picking the images to feature, because I loved them all so much! Take a look at her work below, and you will soon understand why.

Not only fashion, but sweets too! How did she know my other weakness??

Illustration from a Kate Spade presentation.

Katie’s Spring handbag picks for Lucky Magazine.  jcrew // clare vivier // cynthia rowley.

My handbag picks for Summer: Candy Striped J. Crew Clutch // Clare Vivier Oversized Laptop Clutch // Cynthia Rowley Coral Calloway Shoulder Bag.

Illustration inspired by these star pants.

The website includes not only Rodger’s illustrations, but tutorials on things such as how she applies the glitter and how to get vibrant neon paint colors.

She illustrates fashion bloggers too! Blair, of Atlantic-Pacific, is definitely a fave blogger of Mine. I would LOVE to have an original PaperFashion illustration done of me!

You can also Shop and buy prints to make your home more fashionable and artistic. I want to print out this image of 9, and frame it all together as one. I like the displays with the patterned tape.

I first discovered PaperFashion from this photo of Rodger’s workspace that I found on Pinterest. I was immediately drawn to the simple yet fun and colorful details in the room. I knew I had to learn more about who was behind this creative space.

I will definitely be buying some of her illustrations to hang in my own office.

Visit PaperFashion to view or purchase illustrations or for more info.

Jazz Fest Wrap Up – What I Wore

I think I broke my record this year, and attended the Jazz Fest 5 out of the total 7 days!! I have quite a nice looking tan going on now. Here are some shots of my outfits that I wore.

Captions: Vintage braided scarf, Free People crochet & beaded tank // Crawfish strudel & DIY yellow lace bracelet // Vintage camera strap & Everybody’s Buying Vintage purse// twirl! // Vintage polka dot skirt, Lana’s ASOS ruffle bandeau // Free People detailed back // Free People crop top (similar), old skirt, Funky Monkey belt // Vintage scarf as top, Armoire floral shorts

Check out how I made my DIY Flowerchild Fest Headdress

Below are some of my fave shots my photographer friend, Zander took.

I thoroughly enjoyed channeling my inner flower child for those two weekends. Bubble wands, being barefoot, flower headdresses, twirling and dancing, only added to the wonderful times I had with the best of friends!

Peace. Love. Happiness.

DIY: Flowerchild Fest Headdress

My inspiration for this headdress came from Free People, the brand that more than any other, represents femininity, creativity, confidence, adventure, and good ol’ free spirited fun! When I saw this headdress on their website, I fell in love, and knew it was the perfect DIY project right in time for the festivals!

It was really easy and took less than 20 minutes to make. All you need are scissors, a hot glue gun, fake flowers, and fabric, or a strand of lace. I bought the flowers from Michael’s, and just pulled them off of their stems and found this fabric on the clearance rack at Joann’s and bought 1/8 of a yard (which I cut in half length wise to make a second).

Starting from the middle, I folded the width of the fabric on one side half way, put a dot of hot glue, then folded the other side on top. Glue about every inch, on each side, until it fits around your head. Next just glue down the flowers, tie fabric in a knot, and I cut the remaining length of the fabric into three, to give it a fringed look. I cut the fabric on one side of the knot shorter, and left the backside long, then cut each strand slightly different lengths.

I wore it with my hair down, like pictured below, and when it got too hot at the fest, with my hair pulled back with a high, messy bun on top.

It may be the last weekend of Jazz Fest, but Hang Out Fest is 2 weekends from now in Gulf Shores, and this would be the perfect beach accessory! But it’s not like you need a reason to wear a flower headdress during the fun, sunny days of summer anyway!

PEACE. LOVE. HAPPINESS.

Style Stalking: Jazz Fest

I did a little style stalking during the first weekend at Jazz Fest. Here are some of the styles I was crushing on the most.

I loved this girl’s black hat and dark sunnies. I wonder if she snapped any pics of me when I wasn’t looking! ;)

Polka dots, floral, and a braid – the perfect combo for a fest outfit

I mean, check out those earrings and that necklace!! Loving the mint green shades too.

She looked so effortless and comfy in those printed pants and a cut-out back top.

Nothing says festival like some fringe. Natalie, from Glamour Therapy chose to fest out with a fringed parasol and silver fringe earrings.

This guy knew how to rock a tank top! As well as the two behind him…. I guess. This is probably the only time I think it’s ok for a guy to go sleeveless!

Show the fairgrounds some of your best fest fashion this weekend, and I might stalk you to be featured in part 2 of Jazz Fest Style Stalking!
