Fashionably Festive in NOLA

Jazz Fest is one of my favorite events, that I look forward to, and try to find the perfect outfit for, all year long! The days are long and HOT, so I have very specific requirements for what to wear so that the only thing I can complain about is how the portions of the crawfish bread got smaller! Here are some of my tips, and some perfect pieces you can find at 3 local boutiques!

If you wear a dress, it should be full enough to sit indian style, but not too flowy to blow up in the wind (or wear biker shorts of some sort underneath).

Thankfully shorts are a huge trend this season, and it seems almost impossible to not be able to find the perfect pair for every body type, with the selection that’s out there! Lightweight, loose, and preferably printed are my fav style. Colored cut-offs are a good potion too.

Tan lines, are another factor that I think about when I’m going to be out in the sun all day. Try to stick with thin straps, and low cut back, and/or front. If you are comfortable with a little midriff showing, a bandeau bikini top with a high waisted skirt/shorts is the way to go!

The Hemline on Magazine Street knows what I’m talking about with those shorts and bandeau top! The colors and pattern on those shorts were perfect. I like the contrast between the feminine ruffle bikini top, the rustic looking belt, and the boldness of the print in the shorts. Now, this bag does not necessarily “go” with this outfit, but it just screamed Jazz Fest! It’s a great sized tote to throw all your necessities for the day in, like sunscreen, an oversized scarf or blanket to sit on, those extra beers you buy so you don’t have to wait in that long line again, an extra Sweet Potato Pone to bring home with you… you know, necessities!

Retro Active had a fun, festive window display, I just loved this bright orange and yellow sunburst print dress! These high waisted, Hawaiian print pants caught my eye as well. Pair those suckers with a white ruffle bandeau top, and some beaded accessories and you are ready to fest! They have a huge selection of bright colored bangles that will add some pizazz (not to mention a descent noise maker when jamming out) to any fest fit.

Can you tell which pieces I loved most at gae-tana’s? Those fringe bags were incredible! And there were even more styles, shapes, sizes and colors to choose from. I put together these 2 outfits, using different types of shorts, styled in different ways. The first, I used a higher waisted, slim fitting leg, paired with a long lace tank/tunic over. This outfit is perfect with a bikini top underneath so you can still be nice and cool without being too exposed. For an even breezier option, wear without the belt. The second outfit I used a more slouchy fitting drawstring short with a flowy cropped tank, a fringe bag of course, and some layered silk & beaded necklaces. These lightweight printed scarves were the perfect weight and size to bring along with you to use as a blanket to sit on, or throw over your shoulders if you want a break from the burning sun for a bit!

Have fun, stay fashionable, and happy festing!!
