Fashionably Festive in NOLA

Jazz Fest is one of my favorite events, that I look forward to, and try to find the perfect outfit for, all year long! The days are long and HOT, so I have very specific requirements for what to wear so that the only thing I can complain about is how the portions of the crawfish bread got smaller! Here are some of my tips, and some perfect pieces you can find at 3 local boutiques!

If you wear a dress, it should be full enough to sit indian style, but not too flowy to blow up in the wind (or wear biker shorts of some sort underneath).

Thankfully shorts are a huge trend this season, and it seems almost impossible to not be able to find the perfect pair for every body type, with the selection that’s out there! Lightweight, loose, and preferably printed are my fav style. Colored cut-offs are a good potion too.

Tan lines, are another factor that I think about when I’m going to be out in the sun all day. Try to stick with thin straps, and low cut back, and/or front. If you are comfortable with a little midriff showing, a bandeau bikini top with a high waisted skirt/shorts is the way to go!

The Hemline on Magazine Street knows what I’m talking about with those shorts and bandeau top! The colors and pattern on those shorts were perfect. I like the contrast between the feminine ruffle bikini top, the rustic looking belt, and the boldness of the print in the shorts. Now, this bag does not necessarily “go” with this outfit, but it just screamed Jazz Fest! It’s a great sized tote to throw all your necessities for the day in, like sunscreen, an oversized scarf or blanket to sit on, those extra beers you buy so you don’t have to wait in that long line again, an extra Sweet Potato Pone to bring home with you… you know, necessities!

Retro Active had a fun, festive window display, I just loved this bright orange and yellow sunburst print dress! These high waisted, Hawaiian print pants caught my eye as well. Pair those suckers with a white ruffle bandeau top, and some beaded accessories and you are ready to fest! They have a huge selection of bright colored bangles that will add some pizazz (not to mention a descent noise maker when jamming out) to any fest fit.

Can you tell which pieces I loved most at gae-tana’s? Those fringe bags were incredible! And there were even more styles, shapes, sizes and colors to choose from. I put together these 2 outfits, using different types of shorts, styled in different ways. The first, I used a higher waisted, slim fitting leg, paired with a long lace tank/tunic over. This outfit is perfect with a bikini top underneath so you can still be nice and cool without being too exposed. For an even breezier option, wear without the belt. The second outfit I used a more slouchy fitting drawstring short with a flowy cropped tank, a fringe bag of course, and some layered silk & beaded necklaces. These lightweight printed scarves were the perfect weight and size to bring along with you to use as a blanket to sit on, or throw over your shoulders if you want a break from the burning sun for a bit!

Have fun, stay fashionable, and happy festing!!

NOLA Fashion Council Street Style Brunch

My favorite time of the year has arrived yet again. Spring time in New Orleans encompasses all of my favorite things. Sun, warm weather, flowy dresses, festivals, sunnies in every style, midriff’s showing, cucumber & mint in my cocktails, lace & crochet, bright colors, and turbans & head wraps (my current style crush!) are just some of the things that make me happiest around this time… oh yea, and 25 cent mimosas at brunch!

NOLA Fashion Council puts together a street style brunch once a month at Ste. Marie, this Sunday, hosted by The Revival Outpost. It also happened to be the weekend of French Quarter Fest. I had a fun filled day planned so I dressed appropriately for all the festivities without having to go home to change in between, which is quite a hard task for me!

Based on an instagrammed closeup picture of what Andi was planning on wearing, I knew her outfit was going to be fabulous. As always, Andi (co-founder of NOLAFC and NOLAFW) never disappoints.

The hosts of the afternoon, the lovely girls of The Revival Outpost, all looked so hip. You can never go wrong with vintage, I say!

Blogging duo Katie and Rachael, of The Elizabeth Chronicles, are dressed for spring perfectly in their vintage inspired floral dress, and sheer tunic with patterned shorts.

I can’t wait to attend the rest of these brunches to come, and am excited to see who all of the hosts will be! But until my next 25 cent mimosa, I have Jazz Fest and all the great fashion, amazing music, and sunshine that goes along with it to look forward to!

Store Crush: The Revival Outpost

0 Comments so far

I have been crushing on The Revival Outpost for a while now, ever since the first time I went in, before they were even fully stocked with vintage goodies. I thought they had an amazing selection from the get go, but they informed me that they were going to be getting in more amazing one of a kind pieces, and some fun/funky new lines as well. I was hooked… and of course super excited when I heard my newest crush was hosting a party in conjunction with Langford Market, who set up shop showcasing some of their hottest items for a trunk show.

I wore my most recent purchases from Revival Outpost (oversized sheer floral blouse) and adjoining store, Blue Dream Vintage (mid-rise, seamed front skinnies), vintage army belt, Free People necklace, and Vince Camuto heels. Owner, Christina, and I were matching in our 90′s floral prints.

I was obsessed with this outfit below that was styled using vintage, from Revival Outpost, and new, from Langford Market to show how the two can be mixed to create the perfect style!

Check out this beaded fringe leather bikini! Paired with some high waisted cut off’s… Yep, I can see myself wearing that…somewhere…maybe…Okay, I wish I had the guts to pull that off.

I had a great time and walked away with this amazing vest for only $14 that I am already planning outfits with! Next up, NOLA Fashion Council’s Street Style Brunch, hosted by none other that The Revival Outpost!

NOLA Fashion Week // Aveda’s Eco Fashion Day

Saturday, the last day of NOLAFW, was the day I was most excited for because it involved a vintage fashion show! I, of course had to sport some of my best vintage. I went with this amazing diamond print kaftan that I scored from my grandma’s closet. She told me she used to have a matching bathing suit to go with it. Man, I wish that one had stuck around.

Before the show, I stopped by the French Market to check out the designers at the fashion market that was part of NOLAFW. The market featured emerging independent Southern based and born designer collections including Tallulah, and STAY by MAR. (I cannot remember the designer of the first 2 images below eeekk!)

Onto the fashion show! The show featured items from Time Warp Vintage, H.I.P. Vintage, and Noelie Harmon and was at Washington Artillery Park. I took a trip to Baton Rouge the week before to visit Time Warp and get my vintage fix. They were putting together all of the outfits for the show, and I was so excited to see all the finished looks! I was absolutely obsessed with every look, and how they were styled. Now I’ll just have to make another trip there to see if any of it is still left for myself!
